Budget Fitness – Get fit for less

Getting fit doesn’t always have to be expensive. Yes, it can be nice to have a state-of-the-art gym membership or top-notch fitness equipment, but unfortunately it doesn’t always fit into every budget, especially when the going gets tough. Budget fitness is possible and below are some ideas on how to start exercising at home or outdoors so you can get in shape without breaking the bank.

One way to get fit for less money is to buy equipment that is inexpensive and has more than one purpose. Many popular machines, such as abs and thigh trainers, only train part of the body, can take up a lot of space, and can be expensive. So if you are looking for gear to use, you can find items that can add variety and give a full body workout:

stability balls can be used for a variety of exercises from abs to legs to arms. They also make great benches for a variety of exercises like chest presses and can even be used as a seat at your desk.

resistance bands are cheap, small and light. These are one of my personal favorites because they’re easy to use when you’re on the go. Take them with you when you travel or go for a walk.

dumbbells will never go out of style. They are great for training at home. They’re less expensive than larger gym machines and don’t take up as much space.

Such equipment can be easily found at your local department store or fitness store, or online.

Other inexpensive ideas for getting fit outside of the gym include:

Buy, rent or rent training videos. There is a wide variety of workout videos on the market, from weight training to cardio dance to kickboxing. It’s a fun way to train right in your living room and get fit for less. Check out your local store, library, or video rental store to find some great DVDs.

FitTV or ExerciseTV. Most cable packages include one or both of these in your package. This is another great way to bring a variety of workouts right into your home.

Take it outside. When the weather is nice, use nature to go jogging, walking, cycling or take part in outdoor sports with your family or friends. Use picnic tables or benches to do step-ups, push-ups, or tricep dips. Or you could even join a running or walking club.

So I don’t want to hear any excuses! Budget fitness is possible using inexpensive equipment, videos and more. These fitness items can be just as effective as the more expensive ones, so go ahead and get fit for less.
